(#2) Art I’ve Consumed and Enjoyed Recently
I apologize for the lack of content recently. I have been navigating a lot of tumultuous life changes, and my mental health has been suffering because of it. Though I am trying my best to stay grounded through it all, and one of those ways is to continue to consume and create art. So I wanted to share some of the art I’ve consumed and enjoyed recently including movies, books, essays, music, and podcasts.

The Doom Generation
I was initially introduced to the world of Gregg Araki earlier this year when I watched his film Mysterious Skin. And since then I have had intentions of delving into more of his work. The other day whilst scrolling through Criterion Channel I was elated to see that The Doom Generation had been added.
I’ve said this before but I am a sucker for a visually stunning movie. If you have good lighting, good set design, and good costumes you’ve already won me half over. This film had some of the best lighting and set design that I’ve seen since Suspiria. But as can be seen by HBO’s The Idol those aren’t the only qualities that make for a good film. Lucky for me, I found The Doom Generation’s story to be extremely enticing. It had a Bonnie and Clyde energy to it, but instead of a duo it’s a throuple. I found this film to be very engaging, the dialogue was campy and funny, and as mentioned is visual eye candy.
My review on Letterboxd read simply as “Every friend group needs a bisexual cowboy, a racially ambiguous himbo, and an angry punk girl.” which encapsulates the energy of this film.
